The RSYC Taittinger once again provided some champagne sailing on both Saturday and Sunday with sunshine and a good breeze.

24 XODs from Itchenor, Lymington and Yarmouth sailed in three races over the weekend with two races Saturday and one on Sunday.

Saturday saw a short postponement before the south westerly breeze came in allowing for a great upwind first leg towards Hurst castle. After two hours of racing in race one just two minutes separated the first seven boats with X50 Xcitation, sailed by Roger Yeoman, winning.

A slightly shorter second race once again saw some close racing with X119 Lone Star sailed by John Tremlett, Ollie James and Phil Lawrence win the race.

Sunday in lighter winds with a shortened course saw X119 win from X33 Clair de Lune by just eight seconds, giving X119 Lone Star overall victory, with X50 Xcitation in second and RSYC boat X125 Arrow, now in its 41’st year of the Alford family, coming third.

In addition to some fantastic sailing the RSYC laid on some great entertainment ashore, with the Taittinger Champagne Party on the Friday evening and the legendary Towers party on the Saturday night which was attended by almost 1,700 people.

Next year’s Taittinger regatta is planned for the weekend of the 4th to the 6th July. I look forward to seeing you all there.
