The Captain’s Cup, overall winner of Cowes Week, was again won by X91 Astralita, sailed by John Tremlett, Tim Copsey and Fraser Graham.
Team Astralita also won the following Cowes Week Trophies: the Hiscock Trophy for winner of the Saturday’s race, The Royal Thames YC Challenge Cup which will be awarded at a presentation at the Royal Thames, the Eustace Grenfell Trophy for the winner of the Monday’s race, the Frank Beken Trophy, awarded to the winner of the Friday’s race and the Ron Rogers Bowl awarded to the XOD with the lowest cumulative points for the Saturday and Friday races.
In second place overall was X166 Swallow, sailed by Richard Faulkner and Ben McGrane who were awarded the James Meaning Trophy.
Team Swallow were also awarded the Sam Southern Cup for 2nd place winner of the Friday’s race and the Simon Russell Trophy awarded to the team winning the Captain’s Cup after racing on Thursday, with no discards.
In third place was X50, sailed by Roger Yeoman and crew winning the Ningwood Trophy. Roger was also presented with the following awards: RMYC Centenary Trophy for the overall winner of the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday races, the Princess Jalina Trophy for wining the Thursday race and the Old Master’s Salver.
The Itchenor Division retained the Phillipson Shield for the best overall performance at Cowes Week 2024, with Teams X91 Astralita, X50 Xcitation, X174 Foxglove and X39 Gone Away.
The Steele Pilcher Salver was awarded to X174 Foxglove, Alastair and Jackie Ashford for winning the Wednesday race. Steve Dover collected the trophy on their behalf.
Glass prizes were awarded to the top ten boats at Cowes Week. Congratulations to the following: X91 Astralita, X166 Swallow, X50 Xcitation, X174 Foxglove, X165 Tortoise, X161 Mayfly, X33 Clair de Lune, X119 Lone Star, X39 Gone Away, X117 X-Ray
The Ark and Dove Challenge Cup, for finishing 2nd in the Wednesday race, was awarded to X161 Mayfly sailed by Rory and Amanda Paton.
Winner of the Captain’s Crystal went to Paul Woodman, X119 Lone Star
The Class were delighted to support a Youth Bursary Team this year. The youth team sailed X48 XL and was sailed by Abby Hire, Alex Paton, Kate Wharmby and Tom Wharmby. Alex was at the prize-giving and was presented with the Wessex Cup, awarded to the yacht placed first overall on handicap and the Mike Till Trophy awarded to the team with the best performance with a helm under 30 years. Well done Team XL!
The Division Bowl was awarded to Team Lymington for being placed first overall on handicap and included X48 XL, X176 Crumpet, X119 Lone Star and X165 Tortoise.
Other awards were as follows: The Alex Jones Cup I, II, III, IV to X33 Clair de Lune, X58 Madeleine, X117 X-Ray and X119 Lone Star respectively. The Cowes Week Ladies Bowl was awarded to Penny Fulford in X58 Madeleine, the Ladies Vase to Amanda Paton in X161 Mayfly, the Denis Ellis Bowl to X183 Condor and Lifeboat Spoons to X8 Annex, X189 Onyx and X48 XL.
Lastly, but not least, The Performing Seal was awarded to Graham Knowles X74 Fiona, for his ‘escapade’ during one of the races at Cowes Week 2023. The award was received on behalf of Graham by Willy McNeill.
The Inter-Divisional Cups went to the following:
RMYC Challenge Cup (presented by the Itchenor Division) to X91 Astralita, John Tremlett, Tim Copsey and Fraser Graham.
RMYC 75th Anniversary Cup (presented by the Yarmouth Division) to Jeremy Willcock
Coronation Cup (Presented by the Lymington Division) to X165 Tortoise, Jonathan Clark
Finally, Ben McGrane presented the Traveller’s Series prizes, donated by Hyde Sails to: X119 Lone Star, Paul Woodman and Ollie James, X192, Felix Peter Baines and X165 Tortoise, Jonathan Clark.
